Rivers Cuomo says it isn’t personal.
Legendary cult indie-rock favourites Weezer have played down the fact they haven't visited Australia since 1996, with frontman Rivers Cuomo saying he went into “hiding” during that time.
In a recent interview, Cuomo said that it wasn't just Australia that missed out on seeing the much loved band play live.
“I kinda went into hiding for many years and wasn't doing shows anywhere, let alone Australia, and then we just got busy touring around the United States over and over and over again, and then I took a bunch more time off and before you know it 16 years has gone by. We're very much looking forward to coming back though.”
The plus side of the long tenure between drinks for Aussie fans is that they will get to witness a wide range of Weezer classics at their upcoming gigs. Their first LP The Blue Album was released in 1994 and Cuomo and his bandmates are more than happy to throwback to it on their tour.

“Absolutely, that's one of my favourite albums of all time, and it really still represents so much of what I love about music – the soaring melodies and the crunchy guitars and the weird lyrics. I haven't really changed that much since we made that album.”
