Break up a band, help find Joe Strummer's car, invite 30 strangers to your house and help an atheist back into their home.
Sometimes crowdfunding is funny, sometimes it's a great way for people to spread their art to a wider audience and sometimes it's a way for people to quite literally rebuild their lives after devastation. Today we look at examples of all three.

The new line up of Heroes For Hire have taken themselves over to the UK for a tour alongside American pop-punk masters Allister and they're running out of money real quick. They want to party while they're on the road so they're trying to get people to donate some cash to them so they can buy some beer.
They offer a new song called Hate Myself Again for a quid, a Snapchat session (potentially X-Rated) for two, a handwritten lyric sheet for five or, for the true hater, the band will break up and never reform for a mere £20,000.

Name: Nick Hall
Project: I Need A Dodge: a documentary about Joe Strummer's car
Current Status: Unknown
Nick Hall, a big fan of The Clash and Joe Strummer in general, was doing some research on Strummer's life in Spain in the mid-1980s when he stumbled across a radio recording in which the iconic punk talks about a car that he parked in a garage once and could never find again. Hall did some digging to try and find the vehicle almost 30 years later and has captured some pretty interesting footage that went deeper than finding the car; it looked at the mental state that Strummer was in after the demise of his band.
He's going to make a film about this unique story, but needs a bit of coin to get it happening. Unfortunately the crowdfunding campaign through IndieGoGo didn't quite get as much cash as they were hoping to, but Hall and his crew will keep it open to people to make some donations and get the film finished.
The usual perks are there; a credit at the end of the film for €5, a digital copy for €15 and so on, or you can go all out and become the film's official sponsor for €4,000, which will get your company name on the cover of the DVD as well as in the credits and on the film's website.
Name: Melbourne Ska Orchestra
Project: A mammoth national tour
Current Status: Ten pledges, 1.5% ($640) of $42,000 goal, 55 days remaining
After ten years together, the Melbourne Ska Orchestra finally released their debut album this year and took their huge 30-piece band along the east coast of the country to support its release. They hear the calls for their brand of ska in other territories and want to take it there, but it's pretty damn expensive touring when you have a 30-piece band…
Flights alone are going to cost the band $50,000, while on-ground transportation and accommodation are going to see that figure soar far, far higher. So they're looking for a little kickstart – $42,000 worth, to be precise – to ensure they can actually get out there.
If you help them in their Pozible campaign, not only will you get the chance to see the group when perhaps you wouldn't have been able to otherwise, but you'll score some rewards as well. Any donation over five bucks gets a shout out, ten bucks gets a limited edition physical single, $20 gets a signed poster and $40 will score you a CD.
The true fans can get a real treat with $1,000; you and a friend can join the band on stage for a song and party on backstage after the gig as well as score some merch. While if you're willing to part with $15,000 you can have the band play at your house!
Name: Doug Stanhope
Project: Athiests Unite!
Current Status: 3479 pledges 196%% ($98,084) of $50,000 goal, 56 days remaining.
Sometimes things just take on a life of their own. That's what happened when Doug Stanhope decided he wanted to help a family get back on their feet after seeing an awkward encounter on CNN, where presenter Wolf Blitzer asked a survivor of the recent Oklahoma tornado if she thanked the Lord and she replied that she was an atheist.
Stanhope launched an IndieGoGo campaign to get the family, whose house was completely destroyed, some financial assistance. He framed the campaign by taking a similar approach to Christian organisations in similar cirumstances. He offers prayers, the ability to “take it with you”, a guardian angel, some Get Out Of Hell Free cards and a whole series of other hilarious perks.
It worked, they're at almost double the goal after a couple of days and hopefully, for the sake of the tornado victims, they'll do even better.
