We Want The Funds: A Crowdfunding Update

23 April 2013 | 2:18 pm | Dan Condon

Help save a venue, make a record and... get a metal band laid?

This week we look at a Sydney venue who desperately deserves your help, a Brisbane band who will let you hang out backstage and an American band who want people to come on tour with them (so long as they pay). Crowdfunding, what will you give us next?

If you're crowdfunding, we suggest you fill out the form at the bottom of this page!

Name: Red Rattler
Goal: Buy share of its building
Current Status: 182 pledges, 34% ($13,992) of $40,000 goal. 52 days remaining

The Red Rattler is a great performance space in the thriving creative suburb of Marrickville in Sydney's Inner West. If you've been to a few good shows in Sydney in the past couple of years, there's a good chance one of them has been at the Red Rattler.

While it was established by the venue's five founders, two of those people have no decided to move on to different projects and now the remaining operators need some capital to secure a loan that will allow them to buy those two shares of the property.  $40,000 will help them get that loan, $60,000 will mean they can keep hitting their mortgage without halting improvements to the space and more than that will really help them make a dent in that mortgage.

The video above is really informative, we suggest you check it out to really get a feel for the space and what is needed.

In return for your cash, they offer individual rats – artist created figures that will adorn the walls of the venue for the rest of the venue's life – for $300 a pop, oor if you're not that flush with funds you can get a badge and an invite to June's Rat Festival for just $20. If you'd like complete run of the venue for a night you can have that for $2,000 (weeknight) or $5,000 (any night you want), which includes a rat.

Name: Halfway
Project: New album
Current Status: 21 pledges, 23% of goal. 55 days remaining.

They've been kicking around the Brisbane scene forever and have released a bunch of great material in that time, now alt-country dudes Halfway are giving the crowdfunding caper a crack in order to make their new LP.

They are once again working with the one and only Robert Forster on this, their fourth LP, and are giving away some very affordable rewards to their fans. The whole band will play at your house for $1200 or you can have an acoustic set for just $500 (plus a beer and sausage sandwich).

You and a few mates can go out to dinner with the band and then to one of their shows for $160 (you'll have to pay for your own meal but the show is on the band) or hang out backstage at their album launch when it rolls around for just $50. Of course if you just want the record, you can get that for a lazy $25.

Name: Battlecross
Project: Tour
Current Status: 208 pledges, 84% ($21,100) of $25,000 goal. 23 days remaining

Ever wanted to go on the road with a metal band? Well Detroit band Battlecross are giving you that very opportunity, if you're willing to help them out with some cash. They have been invited to play a whole stack of incredible dates but need some help getting there.

Yep, you can score albums and merch, phone calls and Skype sessions with the band, backstage passes to their shows, meals and meet and greets – hell, for $1,500 you and four mates can go and have dinner with the band and they'll give you a PRS guitar!

But the most interesting thing being offered is the $500 Ultimate Road Party Pacakge:

“Be a Roadie/Fan for two shows and travel with us between two dates! Live like we do on the road for two days and one night but you must find your way back home! 18 years or older. Get everything on the $250 package and if you're a hot chick, you'll get even more! haha. Meals included! Detroit show & San Bernadino excluded! You'll appear in our tour video updates and we'll introduce you via Twitter & Facebook.”

Sounds fucking gross to us, but three people have ponied up so far. We wonder if they're “hot chicks”. In the words of Battlecross “haha” .

Name: Marie Wilson
Project: New album
Goal: Undefined

Ever wanted to sponsor an album? Like, actually have your business as the named sponsor – not just chipping in a few bucks to be a regular old silent partner? Well Marie Wilson is letting you do just that with her new record.

She has put together a campaign to get the new LP Extraordinary funded and if you throw in $6,000 the record will become Extraordinary proudly sponsored by [INSERT BUSINESS NAME HERE]. If you only want to sponsor one track, you can do that too!

Other perks she offers are live sets (have her perform on New Year's Eve for $5,000 if you're in Victoria), an invite to a listening party will set you back $500 or you can have her write a song for you for $3,500. If you head over to her page you'll see there are plenty of different options for her most die hard fans.
