WAAX are returning with their first new single in three years and hitting the road this August and September.
Presented by Jerry Can And A Van and Yours & Owls, the tour begins at The Brightside Outdoors on Friday, 29 August, followed by dates at Canberra’s UC Hub on Friday, 5 September, Sydney’s UTS on Saturday, 6 September, Melbourne’s Howler on Thursday, 11 September, and Frankston’s Pelly Bar on Friday, 12 September. Tickets are on sale now via the WAAX website.
The tour is in promotion of the new single, Ur A Rat, which will be released on Friday, 8 August.
Magnetic vocalist Maz De Vita said of her return to the stage and new music, “This tour is about reclaiming WAAX in the most raw, honest way possible, and teaming up with [tattoo artist] Lauren [Winzer] felt like the perfect fit - we’re both driven by creativity, connection, and strong female energy. Tattoos have always been a part of how I connect with fans; they’re like permanent time stamps on our shared experiences.”
She added, “To bring that element into the live show feels really special. Starting the tour in my hometown of Brisbane makes it even more meaningful. This new chapter is all about evolution and empowerment, and I’m so excited to share it up close with everyone. Massive thanks to Sailor Jerry and Yours and Owls for backing this wild ride and giving us the space to bring it all to life.”
Ur A Rat is set to usher in a “fierce new chapter” for WAAX; the single has been described as “blistering” and will be celebrated with this run of intimate shows.

In June 2023, WAAX announced that they’d be going on “indefinite hiatus,” with De Vita reviving the project in November that year as a solo act.
A press release indicates that WAAX is once again a band, but we don’t yet know who will join De Vita on stage. She went on to perform at the re-opening of Crowbar Brisbane last year, and featured in the 2024 Great Southern Nights live series.
