How long could you listen 'Killing In The Name' to the track on repeat?

Vancouver radio station KiSS FM took to the airways last Wednesday with a one song playlist, Rage Against The Machine's Killing In The Name

The radio station, which is owned by Rogers Sports and Media began playing the world famous rap meets metal track in the morning and still hadn't stopped into the early afternoon.

Many listeners called in to request songs, as they normally would, but the DJ ignored it and began to plough through with just Killing In The Name.

Many listeners are speculating that utilising Killing In The Name  was a symbol of revolt against the station. The morning before, popular morning hosts Kevin Lim and Sonia Sidhu anounced their departure from the station after 5 years of service, alongside afternoon host Tara Jean Stevens.

“KiSS is changing and, unfortunately, we were informed that we won’t be part of this new chapter,” said Lim and Sidhu in their final broadcast on Tuesday.

Sources from inside the station have suggested that beyond the radio hosts who announced their departures, a number of other employees were let go.

On Thursday morning, it became obvious that the radio station was simply performing a stunt and used the song to tease the announcement of a new rock station on the 104.9 signal called SONiC Radio.

“We’ve seen huge success with our SONiC brand in Edmonton, serving listeners who are looking for an alternative to pop music,” said Christian Hall, content director for Sonic Radio, in a statement to Vancouver Sun.

“We can’t wait for listeners to meet this fantastic group of entertaining personalities who are unapologetically themselves, and all share a passion for alternative music.”
