The veteran Cali punks are tipping their hats to their seminal 2002 LP this December

More Unwritten Law More Unwritten Law

Long-serving California punk-rockers Unwritten Law are paying tribute to their much-loved fourth album, Elva (2002), with a 15th-anniversary tour of Australia on the cards for this December.

Although just ahead of its actual 15th birthday — the record was released in January '02 — the tour comes at a perfect advent for veteran fans to revisit a classic album while giving younger counter-cultural types an unmissable opportunity to catch a set list of songs that reads like an ode to turn-of-the-millennium teen angst of a brand often imitated but rarely replicated.

Following 1998's breakthrough self-titled album, Elva was something of a revelation for the band's fans at the time; the record eschewed a lot of the skate-punk hallmarks that had defined the band's earlier sound — very much reflecting the scene in which they'd cut their teeth — in favour of a more mature, darker, slightly meatier bent that positively shone through in tracks such as Seein' Red, Babalon and the still-excellent Evolution.

Unwritten Law will commence their impending Australian visit in Brisbane, ensuring they stop in at venues on the Sunshine and Gold coasts before heading south to Adelaide, the Central Coast, Newcastle, Sydney, Melbourne and Perth.
