Iconic skateboarder fixes his mistake.

More The Gooch Palms More The Gooch Palms

LA-based The Gooch Palms found themselves embroiled in an unlikely feud with legendary skateboarder Tony Hawk yesterday, after the band revealed the sports icon had used their track, Trackside Daze, in a new video without permission.

"TFW Tony Hawk uses your song to promote a vid that has been seen hundreds of thousands of times but don't pay or credit you," the duo wrote on Facebook yesterday.

The Newcastle-founded act claimed that while they were OK for the song to be used in the video, which has since racked up over 390,000 views on Instagram, they just wanted to be "properly credited" for it.

However, it appears Hawk got The Gooch Palms' message loud and clear because his Instagram post has since been amended, complete with credit for their song.

"Better late than never Tony Hawk! Thank you for amending the post," they wrote on Facebook today.

UPDATE:

Speaking to theMusic today, The Gooch PalmsKat Friend said their frustration stemmed from the fact that they were contacted about a year ago from Tony Hawk's YouTube channel about using their song.

"We had no problem giving them a couple of songs for free as the exposure seemed worth it so we signed the agreements and never heard back from them again," Friend said.

"We’d completely forgotten about it until a few people mentioned to us that they had watched the video either on Instagram or Youtube and heard our song on it. We were confused at how they got the song and checked it out and it was our song but there was no credit on either YouTube, except a tiny second of text on the video at the very end, and nothing on Instagram at all.

"Then we read through the comments and a lot of people, especially on Instagram, were asking what the music was. Then we saw that at the time, the video had been seen over 250,000 times so we searched back through our emails and found the original email with the promise of properly crediting us if they used our song. I quickly wrote to them asking to be credited as per the signed agreement and was told that it would be fixed immediately."

After expressing their disappointment that their song wasn't credited, Friend said Hawk apologised to the band and credited them, as promised, earlier today.

"I mean, it was a bummer and the only reason we care is that surely a few of those 350,000 viewers might have checked out our music if they had of known who the hell they were listening to," Friend continued.

"But being an independent band, we’re no strangers to being screwed over! It’s just part of the job unfortunately. But we were stoked to see a lot of people actually did care and to see a lot of people tagging Tony Hawk on Facebook and Instagram calling him out for it was awesome.

"But all is resolved now and we can finally be stoked that Tony Hawk used our song on a skating video!"
