Hawk himself will lead an epic live skate demo, while acts like Bodyjar, Alex Lahey and Teenage Joans will deliver the soundtrack.
2024 will mark a quarter of a century (!!!) since Activision released one of the most iconic video games of all time – Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater – and to celebrate, Tony Hawk himself will lead an epic live skate demo in Meanjin/Brisbane.
The event, simply titled Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 25, will go down over two sessions – an all-ages matinee and an 18+ night session – on Saturday January 27, taking place at the Fortitude Music Hall. An 11-foot vert ramp will be installed in the middle of the venue, where Hawk will shred it up alongside a suite of pros from the Birdhouse skate crew. Among them will be world-class female ramp skater Lizzie Armanto, five-time X Games medalist Elliot Sloan, nine-year-old prodigy Reese Nelson, and double-amputee icon Felipe Nunes.
Mimicking the Pro Skater series’ classic formula, Hawk and co. will be accompanied by a raucous pop-punk soundtrack. Both sessions will feature a DJ set from DZ Deathrays and a live performance from Birdman (Or The Unexpected Virtue Of A Tony Hawk Pro Skater Cover Band), whose gimmick is pretty aptly explained by their name. The Sydney-native band cover songs made iconic by the Pro Skater soundtracks – including tracks by the likes of Rage Against The Machine, Millencolin and (of course) Goldfinger – and have long been acclaimed by Hawk himself as one of his favourite bands.
Joining them for the nighttime session will be Bodyjar (whose track Not The Same appeared in Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3) and Alex Lahey (who had Misery Guys pop up in the recent remake of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2). And for the daytime session, Teenage Joans and Yours Truly will take to the stage.
Tickets for Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 25 will go on sale at 9am AEST this Thursday (November 2), following a pre-sale that kicks off at the same time tomorrow (November 1). Head here to sign up for the pre-sale, or bookmark this link for the general sale.
Every game in the Pro Skater series will be playable at the event, and live footage of punters racking up combos will be streamed on a five-metre video wall set up behind the bands onstage.

The event comes as somewhat of an encore to Hawk’s upcoming speaking tour of Australia, which was announced earlier this month. In addition to a performance at The Triffid in Brisbane (slated for two days before this event, on Thursday January 25), the legendary skater will take to stages in Eora/Sydney and Naarm/Melbourne.
