Tom Morello’s massive Power To The People Festival – an event celebrating “freedom, justice, equality, and rock ‘n’ roll” – is taking place this weekend. And, luckily for fans across the globe, it’s being live-streamed for free on YouTube.

The Rage Against the Machine guitarist’s festival runs Saturday, 3 October – Sunday for Australian viewers tuning in – at the Merriweather Post Pavilion in Columbia, Maryland. The live stream begins at 1 pm ET/3:30 am AEDT on Sunday.

In case you missed it: Morello presents and performs at the festival alongside big-name performers like Foo Fighters, Dave Matthews, Joan Baez, Public Enemy, Dropkick Murphys, Cypress Hill, Killer Mike, Serj Tankian, Stephen Stills, Brittany Howard, Taylor Momsen, Geezer Butler, The Linda Lindas, grandson, Scott Ian, and more, plus special guest Bruce Springsteen.

Upon announcing the festival in May, Morello said, “The Power to the People festival is about freedom, justice, equality and rock & roll. It’s about the power everyday human beings have when they come together through music, art, community, and action.

“We’re honoured to bring this incredible lineup to the DC area for a day that celebrates the spirit of activism, creativity, and hope.”

Rolling Stone reports that a portion of proceeds from all ticket sales – plus 100% of net proceeds from VIP tickets – will go towards the pro-democracy, pro-voter organisation, VoteRiders, as well as HeadCount, who will encourage punters at the festival to register to vote.

In late September, Morello released his long-awaited new album, Everyone Gets Everything They Want.

The album contains the recently released single, Adjourn It, featuring Morello’s teenage son, Roman, on guitar, and System Of A Down frontman Serj Tankian. Other collaborators, rockers Beartooth and Irish party-starters Kneecap, appear on the album tracks Everything Burns and Unconquered, respectively.

The album also features the single Soldier in the Army of Love, which arrived last year.

In a recent interview with The Music, Morello teased the album. He shared, “I’ve made lots of rock albums, and I’ve made lots of solo records.

“But this is the time where I’m really going to apply myself and all of my Morellian riffs, you know—the kind of riffs that were the meat and potatoes of Rage Against the Machine and Audioslave but matched with The Nightwatchman stuff, too.”

He continued, “So, it’ll be somewhere between Rage riffs and Springsteen’s Darkness On The Edge Of Town. Those are kind of like the two goalposts there.”
