Today, February 3, the best streaming platform know to man - Bandcamp - will be donating all of its own proceeds from the day's sales to the ACLU - the American Civil Liberties Union.
This move in favour of immigrants was announced by founder/CEO Ethan Diamond, with Bandcamp's 15% share of all digital sales and 10% of all merchandise sales on the site being donated to the ACLU in the wake of the Trump's administration recent executive order, the dubbed "Muslim Ban". (Read the actual facts about this topic here before you sound off in the comment section).
The aforementioned Ethan Diamond wrote, “We at Bandcamp oppose the ban wholeheartedly, and extend our support to those whose lives have been upended.” He also said the executive order “is not simply immoral, it violates the very spirit and foundation of America.”
Along with that statement, Bandcamp then also shared a selection of songs by artists from these seven banned countries, as well as Mexico (because you know, that fucking border wall and all).

Now, keep in mind that bands are still retaining their own shares from these digital sales too.
Since the recent US election, many artists and labels have protested Trump and his policies, such as Pinegrove, Run for Cover, and Rihanna have all used this platform's “pay-what-you-want” model to raise donation funds. Sia and Grimes even initiated charity campaigns supporting organisations fighting against Trump’s actions. So to have indie rock legends, The National, who have performed at multiple Planned Parenthood benefits, and some of the band members have even participated in the Women’s March on Washington. Never to be outdone in their opposition to the Right and this new President, they also donated the profits from their online store to Planned Parenthood, the ACLU, the Southern Poverty Law Center, and Democracy Now!, with raising $16,248.25 for this drive. Putting their money where their mouth is.
Well, anyway if you will now excuse me, I have some shit to go buy on Bandcamp!
