More TISM More TISM

TISM fans have shown up in massive quantities, it seems, with the huge response to the group’s first Sydney Opera House show now necessitating a second.

First announced on Monday, next year will see Melbourne’s masked musical mirthmakers heading over to Sydney in April 2026 for their first-ever performance at the iconic Opera House.

Not content with just showing up and (figuratively) tearing the roof off the joint, the band have also announced they’ll be performing their 1995 album, Machiavelli And The Four Seasons, in full.

Following a pre-sale this morning which resulted in a sell-out of the Friday, April 10th performance, the group have now added a second (and final) date for Sunday, April 12th.

Originally issued on May 1st, 1995, Machiavelli And The Four Seasons was TISM’s third full-length record, and served as their commercial breakthrough. Arriving after two studio albums and a handful of EPs, the record harnessed a unique blend of electronic music and pub rock, with the group’s subversive nature and satirical lyrics caught the attention of the Australian music public.

Peaking at No. 8 on the ARIA Charts as part of its 72 weeks on the charts, the record went Gold, and even saw TISM take out Best Independent Release at the ARIA Awards that same year (with SBS soccer commentator Les Murray making a well-remembered speech as part of his acceptance of the award).

Thanks largely to the success of singles such as (He’ll Never Be An) Ol’ Man River, Greg! The Stop Sign!!, and All Homeboys Are Dickheads, the album was an underground sensation that spilled out into the mainstream, briefly putting TISM on the radar of music lovers across the country, and resulting in legions of new additions to the (still active Victims Of TISM Support Group).

Earlier this year, the album was also the focus of full-length book as part of the Oceania edition of the long-running 33⅓ series of musical essays, and also received an expanded reissue on vinyl and CD, collecting B-sides and demos from the recording process.

The upcoming shows will be the first time that fans have ever had to see the album performed in full, with many of the songs having not been performed live in close to 30 years. (No word yet if Phillip Glass will be appearing as a special guest for an encore.)

Tickets to the newly-announced show go on sale from 10am AEDT on Thursday, November 13th, with dedicated fans urged to get in early to secure their place in the crowd.
