Tina ArenaTina Arena AM has today been announced as one of two new appointees to the Australia Council For The Arts.
While best-known for her work as an artist for over four decades, Arena was made an Member of the Order of Australia in 2016 for her service to the Australian music industry and has also been awarded a Knighthood of the French National Order of National Merit for her contributions to French culture.
Arena is an avid and vocal supporter of the Australian music industry, using her 2017 BIGSOUND keynote address to call out issues of radio airplay and gender bias. Watch it below.
The Australia Council works to increase the "visibility of Australia's vibrant arts and culture, and recognising the evolving way that Australians make and experience art" and provides funding and grants to projects to promote Australian arts around the world, including initiatives like SOUNDS AUSTRALIA (a joint initiative with APRA AMCOS).
Earlier this year, the Council awarded $6.6 million in grants to artists including the likes of Gang Of Youths ($38,000) after a huge 2018 for a US headline tour and singer-songwriter Julia Jacklin ($40,899) for international touring.
In addition to Arena, former managing director of Channel 7 Perth Mario D'Orazio has also been appointed at the board.
