Things Of Stone And Wood Announce Second Album Of 2026, 'The Final Forest'

After taking 23 years to release a new album, it's only taken Things Of Stone And Wood six months to follow it up.

It took them 23 years to return with a new album, but it’s clear that folk rock heroes Things Of Stone And Wood had hit upon a purple patch, taking just six months to announce their second album of the year.

Having Having first formed back in 1989, Melbourne outfit Things Of Stone And Wood enjoyed enviable chart success in the early-to-mid-'90s, with both debut album The Yearning and second record Junk Theatre peaking at a respectable No. 8.

After two more records preceded a split, a brief reunion in the early '00s brought with it 2003's Rollercoaster. However, despite reuniting once more in 2013, fans had to wait until this year for their sixth album, Rae Street, to arrive.

Their best performing record in three decades, a national duo tour featuring co-founders Greg Arnold and Mikey Allen followed, and now the group have announced the impending release of their second album of 2026, with The Final Forest set to arrive on October 30th.

Viewed as something of a musical twin to Rae Street, the ten-track collection sees the group eschewing their bedroom folk approach for a more retro-styled affair, leaning into a classic, piano-led ‘70s retro studio vibe in an effort to capture the raw nature of their communal sound.

Alongside the record’s release, the band will also be taking the full trio – complete with drummer Tony Floyd – out on the road, albeit for a more acoustic series of shows. Tickets to their headline dates are on sale now, with tickets for their appearance at the Freo Folk Festival on November 21st on sale now.
