Live performance awards moving from Opera House

The Helpmann Awards will move from the Sydney Opera House to the Capitol Theatre in 2014, with the live entertainment and performing arts awards to once again be shown on Foxtel.

Recognising achievement in the theatre and musical theatre industries as well as contemporary music touring and festivals, the 14th annual awards will take place Monday 18 August.

Foxtel will screen the Awards on their channel Arena although the publicist for the awards could not confirm to theMusic.com.au today if the broadcast will be live or a delayed package. Jon Nicholls returns to the role of Executive Producer, replacing last year's Liza McLean, and the ceremony will be opened with The Lion King's opening number The Circle Of Life.

“Like most Australians, I am a real fan of our live performance culture and greatly admire the artistic brilliance and creativity celebrated through The Helpmann Awards held in Sydney, the live performance capital of Australia,” Minister for Tourism, Major Events and the Arts, George Souris said today.
