Rising Naarm/Melbourne psychedelic rock band The Crystal Ship are giving nascent fans a chance to get on board with their signature sound, having announced a residency at famed Melbourne venue Cherry Bar.

The group’s newly-announced residency will see them taking over the Cherry Bar stage each Wednesday throughout November, performing four free shows – on Wednesday, November 6th, 13th, 20th, and 27th – throughout the month.

The Crystal Ship are a newly-launched addition to the Melbourne music scene, having first formed earlier this year to craft – as the band themselves put it – a “new psychedelic/indie rock band hailing from all parts of the world”.

Already, their profile has managed to grow gradually, with their initial gigs being well-attended by their avid group of supporters.

As could be expected with most bands with a psychedelic rock lean, The Crystal Ship find themselves taking influence from classic names such as the musicality of The Beatles, Pink Floyd, and Led Zeppelin, and the songwriting of artists such as Jeff Buckley and – as their name implies – Jim Morrison.

Utilising these myriad influences, the group have thus far prided themselves on stepping outside of the traditional psychedelic rock box and instead traversing the dark recesses of the genre as it powers through psychedelic fever dreams before emerging into moments of pure euphoria.

Currently, The Crystal Ship’s fresh presence on the music scene has seen them arrive with plenty of big plans for the future. Their newly-announced Cherry Bar residency will be complemented by what is being dubbed “a busy summer of projects” for the group.

Having announced a team-up with indie tastemaker label Class Action Records, fans can likely assume there will be some debut recordings from The Crystal Ship on the horizon, though no official word has been shared yet.
