More Taylor Swift More Taylor Swift

Taylor Swift fans were shocked and awed when the Anti-Hero singer announced her first Australian dates since 2018. Heading back down under in February 2024, Swift is only performing in two cities – Sydney and Melbourne, which drew some frustration and outrage alongside the jubilation surrounding her return.

But is there hope for other cities across the country? As Taylor Nation, the fan account dedicated to all things Taylor Swift, shared on Twitter over the weekend, she’s added three new shows in Singapore to meet the demand for the previously announced two concerts in the Southeast Asian City.

“Singapore will be singing even more … at three NEW SHOWS just added to #SingaporeTSTheErasTour,” Taylor Nation wrote.

Does that mean there’s a chance of Swift heading to Brisbane, Perth or Adelaide? The omission of Brisbane has been particularly galling for fans. Brisbane has been included on all five of Swift’s previous Australian tours.

According to ASM Global Asia Pacific chairman Harvey Lister, Swift was “definitely holding dates” at Brisbane’s Suncorp Stadium. Speaking on ABC Radio Brisbane last week and transcribed by NME, Lister claimed that “Australia got sandwiched” as “dates around the world fell into place.”

Lister continued, “She comes through Japan, plays Australia, goes out through Singapore and then straight back to Europe.

“There just wasn’t time to keep leapfrogging from city to city,” Lister added. “So the decision was taken to play in Sydney and Melbourne where the stadiums can take about 100,000 [attendees].”

On holding dates in Brisbane, Lister said, “We’re normally just holding some dates around that and pencilling them out just in case there’s a chance to roll into an additional one. There’s no doubt there’s an enormous, enormous interest from Swifties right across the country, and it’s just unfortunate.

“Brisbane doesn’t miss out on stuff like this very often at all – this is just one of those occasions.”

Taylor Swift will return to Australian shores in February 2024, starting at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on 16 February 2024 and the second the night after (17 February) – before tripling up at Accor Stadium over 23-25 February. Joining her for all five shows will be American singer and actress Sabrina Carpenter, making her debut appearances in Australia.

Since Swift’s 2018 Australian tour, she has released four original studio albums (Lover in 2019, Folklore and Evermore in 2020, and Midnights in 2022) and two Taylor’s Version remakes of previous efforts (Fearless and Red, both in 2021).

A third Taylor’s Version remake album – a new take on her 2010 LP Speak Now – will be released on 7 July via Republic, as revealed at one of the Nashville dates of the Eras tour.

Pre-sale tickets for Swift’s Australian tour go on sale on Wednesday afternoon, with the general sale commencing on Friday. You can purchase tickets via Frontier Touring.
