Taylor Swift has confirmed that fans will hear her voice in the Toy Story 5 soundtrack, announcing that she’s written a new song, I Knew It, I Knew You, for the film.

The news arrives a month after a 48-hour countdown was posted and swiftly deleted from the singer’s website. Fans quickly went into overdrive, investigating the Toy Story-esque clouds and accompanying The Life of a Showgirl-inspired font driving the countdown.

The countdown was deleted almost immediately, and Swift’s website went back to promoting her latest album, last year’s The Life of a Showgirl. In addition to the countdown, “TS” billboards—for Toy Story and the Blank Space hitmaker’s initials—appeared over the weekend in LA, Chicago, Dallas, San Francisco, Toronto, Mexico City, and London.

I Knew It, I Knew You – written and produced by Taylor Swift and Jack Antonoff – will be officially released this Saturday, 6 June. It can also be heard when Toy Story 5 lands in cinemas on Thursday, 18 June.

Swift’s latest track is inspired by Jessie’s “rootin’, tootin’” journey throughout the Toy Story films, according to a press release, and reportedly showcases a return to her country roots.

Toy Story 5 Director and Screenwriter Andrew Stanton said, “It’s incredible just how meaningful it’s been having Taylor write and perform this song.

“Her connection to Jessie and the immediate way she understood what the character was going through was undeniable. The song is so deeply connected to Toy Story. So much so that on first listen, it instantly felt like it had always belonged there, like a long-lost family member. It was kismet.”

Swift added, “It’s a Toy Story 🤠 You knew it! My new original song ‘I Knew It, I Knew You’ for Disney and Pixar’s Toy Story 5 will be yours on June 5th.

“I’ve always dreamed of getting to write for these characters who I’ve adored since I was a 5 year old kid watching the first Toy Story movie. I fell instantly in love with Toy Story 5 when I was lucky enough to see it in its early stages, and I wrote this song as soon as I got home from the screening. Sometimes you just know, right?”

You can pre-order CD variants of the single on Swift’s website.

Taylor Swift isn’t the only musical star to feature in Toy Story 5. Yesterday, it was announced that Australian DJ FISHER will appear as a new character named Garden Gnome. And last week, it was reported that Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio – aka Bad Bunny – would appear in the film as Pizza with Sunglasses.

“I am incredibly excited to be part of ‘Toy Story 5’,” FISHER said. “This is a franchise that my family and I have loved for years – I can't wait to watch it with my kids.”
