One of Australia’s best-known names in electronic music, Gold Coast DJ FISHER, has announced a surprise career move: he’s set to appear as Garden Gnome in Toy Story 5.

From headlining sets at sold-out festivals and performances in Ibiza, Las Vegas, and Coachella, launching his own festival, and more, FISHER expands his growing repertoire by joining one of the most iconic film franchises of all time.

The long-awaited release of Toy Story 5 lands in cinemas in Australia and New Zealand on Thursday, 18 June. FISHER will play Garden Gnome, who’s part of a “small but mighty” group of forgotten toys found in an abandoned backyard shed.

According to a press release, he’s “fiercely protective of teatime and his kid.”

“I am incredibly excited to be part of ‘Toy Story 5’,” FISHER commented in a statement. “This is a franchise that my family and I have loved for years – I can't wait to watch it with my kids.”

And FISHER isn’t the only hot act in music to join the cast. Last week, it was announced that Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio – aka Bad Bunny – would appear in the film as Pizza with Sunglasses.

Bad Bunny is a huge fan of Toy Story. In 2020, he crafted videos starring the film franchise’s characters, using his own action figures, for short films he titled “Toy Story in the Times of Coronavirus.” The videos starred Woody, Buzz Lightyear, Rex and Forky, all enthusiastically voiced by the Tití Me Preguntó singer.

The pair join an all-star cast that includes Tom Hanks, Joan Cusack, Tim Allen, Conan O’Brien, Bonnie Hunt, Tony Hale, Keanu Reeves, Matty Matheson, Alan Cumming, and many others.

Meanwhile, the plot for Toy Story 5 is “Toy meets Tech.” The film finds Woody, Buzz Lightyear, Jessie, and friends facing a new challenge as they compete for their kid, Bonnie’s, attention against the tablet device, Lilypad.
