Tame Impala Crack Top Five On US Billboard Albums Chart

The Aussie outfit's new album 'Currents' is doing tremendous business abroad

West Australian-bred psych champions Tame Impala have seen latest LP Currents do much for their reputation as purveyors of some of the country's finests tunes pretty much everywhere it's been released.

From a top-three debut in the UK to giving the band their first-ever #1 album here at home, the band's third studio full-length has racked up accomplishment upon accomplishment, with the trail of domination continuing around the world to the United States, where it's just stepped out at #4 on the Billboard 200 albums chart.

As if that alone weren't impressive enough, Tame Impala have also claimed top spot on two more-specific charts: Alternative Albums — where it beats out fellow new faces Sublime With Rome (Sirens) and displaces the likes of Breaking Benjamin (Dark Before Dawn, #3) and Twenty One Pilots (Blurryface, #4) to claim the #1 position — and the prestigiously titled Tastemaker Albums ladder, on which it also comes in just ahead of another debutante, Something More Than Free by Jason Isbell (#2).

The results come at the end of a particularly productive time for the band, who were apart of the massive cabal of acts pleasing punters at last weekend's Splendour In The Grass festival. See galleries and reviews from the event here.
