"Collaborating with all my favs to take over an unused space in Sydney to bring together some of the best of our arts scene to create a new cultural destination that promotes artistic excellence."
In an attempt to revitalise Sydney's nightlife and culture, Kat Dopper who founded Heaps Gay and Summer Camp Festival has landed the keys of an old cinema, reshaping the space to collaborate and create a 6 week arts and entertainment festival with some of Sydney's best party starters, DJs and artists.
The space will be called Pleasures Playhouse and will act as a venue for fun and self expression. The original building was original used as the iconic Harbour City Cinema which housed old Chines films. It will become Sydney's most exciting cultural destination in Haymarket hosting 35 days of parties from Thursday the 22nd of September to Monday the 31st of October.
The cinema will host a range of events every single nights from talented artists including BBGB Worldwide, Alex Lahey, Broods, Haiku Hands, Carolina Gasolina, Bare Necessities & more as well as community focussed parties hosted by BYPASS, Heaps Gay, Athletica, Fur Ball, Nina Las Vegas & more.
Highlighting the rich tapestry of Sydney’s talent, Founder Kat Dopper shares, “This is one of the most exciting projects I’ve been able to work on, literally a dream. Collaborating with all my favs to take over an unused space in Sydney to bring together some of the best of our arts scene to create a new cultural destination that promotes artistic excellence. After the loss of over 180 venues since lock outs in 2015, its vital that we create new spaces for the next generation of artists to create and connect with audiences"
The festival is funded by the NSW Government through the CBDs revitalisation program which aims to bring people into the city.
