A new report has found that Australia is a global leader in EDM, with Aussies listening to more dance music than any other country.

A new IMS Business Report has discovered that Australia is the third-largest market for electronic music worldwide. The report says the market is experiencing “explosive” growth.

Taking stats from SoundCloud and Pollstar, the report found that electronic music makes up a third of all streams on SoundCloud in Australia, which is 50% higher than the global average of 22%.

Meanwhile, Pollstar discovered that Aussie promoters Untitled Group, Handsome Tours, and Frontier Touring rank in the Top 50 global list of companies selling the most tickets worldwide. Plus, Aussie artists dominate at international festivals, including Tomorrowland, Creamfields, ULTRA Miami, and Dekmantel.

Fans in Australia also engage with electronic music on a deeper level than just streaming: We’re known to like and share songs, add them to our playlists, and listen on repeat, and this happens more frequently than with fans of other music genres.

Electronic music uploaded by artists has also grown, amassing 35% of all uploads in 2024 compared to 28% in 2023. The uploads include genres such as techno and dubstep, both of which are dominating on SoundCloud. Other EDM styles that are growing in popularity include house, trance, and hardstyle.
