More Fred Again.. More Fred Again..

Fred again.. fans have proved themselves to be the Swifties of EDM, blowing up the Internet after the Rumble hitmaker announced a surprise show in Sydney (Eora) for tonight (February 27).

As predicted by Purple Sneakers last week, Fred will perform a special pop-up at the Sydney Opera House in less than 12 hours. The show itself will kick off at 9:30pm, according to the venue’s website – taking to the stage in the 5,700-capacity Concert Hall.

Despite the insanely short notice, demand for the gig is absolutely wild: at the time of writing, the queue for tickets has an estimated wait time of more than an hour, with a little over 99,000 other people vying for their own shot at attending. You can head here to get amongst the action for yourself (if the show hasn’t already sold out by the time you’re reading this).

Fans are also losing it on social media (and understandably so). “Just the thought of another last minute Fred again.. show is enough to make me go feral I’m sorry,” wrote Jackson Langford on Twitter. But as another user named Joey hilariously pointed out, “Fred again.. has a weird fetish for playing rooms that are [one tenth] the size of his demand in that city.”

Perhaps most notable is that the show wasn’t even announced by Fred in a proper post online, rather in an Instagram Story he dropped around 9:30am. According to the artist, he has just two hours to build the show with “no lights” and “one small screen”. He also has to work around the schedule of the Opera House’s orchestra, who are using the venue to rehearse until 6pm.

Fred last performed Down Under about a year ago, touring with the Laneway festival and playing several pop-up shows in Melbourne and Sydney. Reviewing his Laneway set, David James Young wrote for TheMusic.com.au that it marked “a joyous moment in and unto itself”, and was “beautiful, exploding festival perfection – easily the set of the day”.
