Nelly Furtado shocked Australian DJ and collaborator Dom Dolla over the weekend by presenting a plaque for their song, Eat Your Man, which has been certified Gold in Australia.

Dom Dolla only shared the news today (13 September), writing on Instagram alongside some photos of the pair: “this is a special one… Ms. Nelly Furtado popped in to surprise me over the weekend, it turns out our song ‘eat your man’ has just gone gold”.

He added, “this comes as a big surprise to both of us, as we wanted to write a club record. no pop structure, no video clip. just one hook, a great bassline and a few extra bits to spike your interest. But above all else… we wanted something for all the DJs out there to rinse on a saturday evening. special shout out to our homie Anjulie as co-writer & Wayne Sunderland for his great job on mastering. we’re so glad you all like the tune as much as we do”.

Furtado commented on his post, “Dom let’s make a cool track to perform at your club shows. You’re an incredible artist but an even better person. This one will always feel like magic. And I feel very bad ass when I perform this live so THANK YOU SO MUCH.”

Eat Your Man was released last June. The song was nominated for two awards at the 2023 ARIA Awards, with Dom Dolla nominated for Best Solo Artist.

Dom Dolla and Nelly Furtado met at Beyond The Valley festival in December 2022/January 2023 and rang in the New Year together. At the festival, Furtado performed her first show in five years, performing Glue by Bicep and Say It Right together.

Upon its release, Dom Dolla said about working with Furtado, “Nelly first reached out to me after we were both booked to play Beyond The Valley Festival. She’d discovered my music not long before and was into what she heard. We immediately hit it off.

“After a few days of writing, she mentioned she would love to work on a club record together, and we began to put some ideas down. Not long after, ‘Eat Your Man’ was born.”

This November, Dom Dolla will tour across Australia, with demand leading to additional shows being announced at Sydney’s Domain, Melbourne’s Flemington Racecourse, and Brisbane’s Riverstage. You can find more tour details here.
