The Australian Recording Industry Association have unveiled the full list of nominees for this year’s ARIA Awards, led by Genesis Owusu with a head-spinning SEVEN nominations.
The Canberran genre-bender is up for Album Of The Year, Best Solo Artist, Best Hip Hop / Rap Release, Best Independent Release – all at the hand of his stunning sophomore effort STRUGGLER, which arrived last month – as well as Best Video for the album single Stay Blessed. His seventh nomination comes in tandem with Dave Hammer and Simon Cohen, who are up for Best Engineered Release for their work on STRUGGLER.
Following right behind him are Dom Dolla, G Flip and Troye Sivan, each racking up six nominations. Flip is also nominated for Album Of The Year with their own second album, DRUMMER (which recently put them on the cover of The Music), while them, Dom and Sivan are all up for Best Solo Artist. Dom and Flip are both up for Best Australian Live Act, while Dom and Sivan will compete for Best Dance / Electronic Release, Song Of The Year, Best Engineered Release and Best Produced Release.
In an exclusive interview with Purple Sneakers, Dom said of his six nominations: “It feels crazy. It honestly hasn't sunk in – I don't know if it's gonna sink in 'til I get there. I'm bugging out. I'm speechless, to be honest.”
Elsewhere in this year’s list of ARIA nominees, DMA’S and Budjerah both scored a respective five nominations, while King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard, Kylie Minogue and The Teskey Brothers all racked up four nods each. As announced yesterday, too, Jet will be inducted into the ARIA Hall Of Fame.
This year’s ARIA Awards ceremony will be held on Wednesday November 15, returning to the Hordern Pavilion in Eora/Sydney. In a new format for the ARIAs, the awards will be first streamed live on Stan (starting at 5:00pm AEDT), followed by a free-to-air broadcast on Nine later in the evening (7:30pm). Highlights from the event – including live performances – will go live on the official ARIAs YouTube channel, shared as they happen. The channel will also stream the ARIAs Red Carpet from 1:30pm.

In a press statement, ARIA CEO Annabelle Herd said of this year’s awards: “The countdown to this year’s ARIA Awards is officially on, and we’re absolutely thrilled to congratulate this year’s nominees, who represent the best of the best in Australia across a really wide range of artists from various genres and communities. With over 60 percent of this year’s nominees coming from independent labels, we’re excited to celebrate success stories from across the Australian music industry, and showcase exactly what we’ve got to the rest of the country and the world. Congratulations again to everyone nominated, we can’t wait to celebrate with you in November.”
The excitement was shared by Marion Goodman-Briand – manager of music content partnerships for YouTube Australia and New Zealand – who added: “I'm thrilled to see the incredible lineup of Australian artists nominated for the 2023 ARIA Awards! We cannot wait to celebrate these homegrown musicians and share their music with new fans around the world on YouTube. People are already getting to know their names through the globally livestreamed nominations announcement on the ARIAs YouTube channel – if you missed it, you can catch-up now.”
Also weighing in was John Graham – NSW’s minister for the arts, minister for music and the nighttime economy, and minister for jobs and tourism – who said in his own statement: “As NSW’s first minister for music, I am thrilled to join ARIA in congratulating all the nominees for the 2023 ARIA Awards. Every year these awards grow and showcase the incredible home-grown talent found in this country.
