Australian singer-songwriter Mallrat – aka Grace Shaw – received an epic surprise yesterday (6 October) when an unlikely star shared her music on social media.
It turns out that The Devil Wears Mallrat. Anne Hathaway, the American actress known for leading roles in films such as The Devil Wears Prada and The Princess Diaries, shared a photo shoot on her Instagram yesterday, and the song that soundtracked the post was Mallrat’s Teeth.
Teeth is also one of Mallrat’s most popular songs. On Spotify alone, it’s amassed over 16 million plays. Anne Hathaway’s post has received over 3.2 million likes, 16,000 comments, nearly 27,000 reposts, and 85,5000+ shares.
Reacting to Hathaway sharing Teeth on her post, Mallrat commented on the actress’s Instagram, “Princess Anne, I am so honoured you used my song! Adore you.”
Hathaway’s song choice received additional excitement from Australian artists and music industry professionals. Ben Lee wrote, “Song choice 👌,” music journalist Tait McGregor added, “ANNE HATHAWAY YOU HAVE GREAT MUSIC TASTE,” Annie Hamilton described the song choice as “iconic,” and journalist and editor Jackson Langford wrote, “CONFIRMED MALLRAT FAN.”

Released in November 2022, Teeth is one of the singles from Mallrat’s album Butterfly Blue.
Opening up about the music video, she said at the time:
When I was writing my album, I kept thinking I wanted to harness distortion and roughness to balance out the delicate and ethereal moments, this video a very literal depiction of that. The references are eclectic, from Lady Godiva to Siren mythology, Charlie's Angels, and the Paris Hilton Carl's Jr commercial.
In February, Mallrat released her highly anticipated second album, Light hit my face like a straight right. The album has been nominated for this year’s Australian Music Prize and has seen Mallrat receive two nominations for the 2025 ARIA Awards: Best Solo Artist and Best Pop Release.
On Tuesday, 2 December, Mallrat will head to the Sydney Opera House Forecourt and open Chet Faker’s Built On Glass tenth anniversary show as part of Live Nation’s On The Steps program. Earlier this year, she was the special guest on Kylie Minogue’s Tension Tour across Australia and played some headline shows.
Mallrat is currently touring across the US, playing headline shows as well as opening for global pop star Marina.
