Slowthai Quietly Dropped From Splendour In The Grass 2023 Line-Up

Slowthai has been removed from the Splendour In The Grass 2023 line-up, following charges of sexual assault in the UK.

As reported by ABC, the Selfish rapper (real name Tyron Kaymone Frampton) was quietly removed from the festival's website last week, with Splendour sharing an updated poster on Facebook without his name on the line-up.

It comes following Frampton appearing in court on Tuesday, 16 May, after being charged with two counts of rape, during which he appeared in an Oxford court via video link from his Northampton home. 

The Happy rapper was charged with “oral and vaginal penetration of a woman without her consent”. The alleged sexual assault took place in September 2021 in Oxford. Frampton was released on bail and will appear in a Crown Court next month. 

Frampton shared a statement “categorically deny[ing] the charges” almost two hours after The Guardian’s story broke, writing on social media:

“Regarding the allegations being reported about me. I categorically deny the charges. I am innocent and I am confident my name will be cleared. Until then I will apply my energy to ensure this is concluded swiftly and justly. I ask that my supporters don’t comment about this situation and respect the process and privacy of my family at this time.”

Along with his removal from Splendour In The Grass, Slowthai has also been axed from a number of UK festivals, including Glastonbury and Reading & Leeds festivals.

No word yet on who is set to replace Slowthai for Splendour's opening weekend, or whether his string of sideshows in Australia and New Zealand will be going ahead.
