The veteran heavy musician will be heard in this weekend's episode, 'Under The Lake'

Stalwart heavy-rock flag-bearer and accomplished growler Corey Taylor has harnessed his talent for guttural noises to record lines - erm, sort of - for BBC sci-fi institution Doctor Who, on which his "deep and terrifying roar" will feature this weekend.

The next instalment of season nine, Under The Lake, screens on ABC this Sunday 4 October and, along with being pegged as one of the scariest episodes of the series to date, will bestow Taylor's distinct scream upon episode villain the Fisher King, an alien warlord played by Neil Fingleton - who, as Blabbermouth notes, is the tallest British-born man and tallest man in the European Union, at 2m 32cm - and voiced for spoken dialogue by Peter Serafinowicz (Shaun Of The Dead, Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace).

Taylor was approached by the show's producers when the band - who are apparently vocal fans of Doctor Who - performed in Cardiff, where the series is filmed, back in January. He has since confirmed the news himself on social media, appearing to be genuinely enthused about the impending revelation of his contribution to the overall terror of the Fisher King.

This is far from the first instance of Doctor Who turning to the music community to bring a little something extra to its intergalactic universe; last year, British-born musician Foxes appeared in season-eight episode Mummy On The Orient-Express, delivering a stunning cover of Queen's Don't Stop Me Now in the process.
