Aussie artist Sia (real name Sia Furler) has hit back at claims made online that she performed in blackface early in her pop career.

The accusations began on Twitter after Furler threw her support behind Justin Bieber's manager Scooter Braun in regards to his recent stoush with Taylor Swift after he acquired the rights to the US pop star's early recordings as part of the Big Machine Label Group sale.

Swift has alleged that she was the target of "incessant, manipulative bullying" from Braun for years prior to the sale, and that she was not given the opportunity to buy back her work.

Sia pledged her support of Braun in a tweet yesterday, saying "You're a good kind man @scooterbraun I hope this passes quickly. I love you keep going."

The artist, who is known for concealing her face under a variety of large wigs when performing, has now defended early performances where she was painted to match a backdrop.

"For the swift fans trying to make out that I would ever do blackface please see this video," it reads.
