Sheppard Sign Global Deal With Kobalt Music Publishing

Well, they're not going anywhere anytime soon

More Sheppard Sheppard

Brisbane-bred world-beating pop outfit Sheppard have cemented their status as a fixture of the global scene with the announcement that they have freshly inked a worldwide deal (ex Australia/NZ) with renowned indie powerhouse Kobalt Music Publishing.

The agreement comes as Sheppard wind up current performing duties in Japan as part of the Summer Sonic series of festivals, and will entail Kobalt's management of "all published works" for Sheppard; past, present and future.

"Sheppard is a very talented group, on track for tremendous success," Kobalt's president of global creative, Sas Metcalfe, said in a statement. "We are delighted to have them as a part of the Kobalt family."

It's quite a family, at that, with the existing roster of acts falling under the company's purview not only including high-profile international artists such as Alt-J, Grimes and Queens Of The Stone Age, but several Aussie contemporaries to make Sheppard feel right at home, including Allday, Alison Wonderland, Gypsy & The Cat, Icehouse, Ricki-Lee, Art Vs Science, Bluejuice (RIP), Gotye, and many more — a fact not lost on the members of Sheppard.

"We are very honoured and excited to sign with Kobalt Music Publishing, which is on the cutting edge of working songs and writers in the 21st century," frontman George Sheppard said in a statement.

"We are looking forward to a long and successful partnership and are proud to join Kobalt's impressive list of world-renowned writers."

Given the band's evident appeal at home and overseas — they've gone Gold, Platinum or Multi-platinum in 21 countries — no doubt there'll be a fair amount of material to keep Kobalt busy, especially once Sheppard return to the studio later this month to start putting their heads down on the follow-up to their acclaimed debut LP, last year's Bombs Away.
