Sheppard Looking At Strong Debut On Singles Chart

Independent Brisbane pop group Sheppard are set to stake a strong debut on the ARIA Singles Chart this week, with midweek figures indicating Geronimo is looking at landing somewhere between 20 and 30.

The chart is usually the domain of major label-groomed international stars but Sheppard will look to mix it with other Aussies in the top 50, including Jessica Mauboy and Taylor Henderson. The band had a hit with Let Me Down Easy last year, which racked up double-platinum (140,000 scans) sales. Signed to Chugg Music/MGM locally, they recently inked a worldwide deal with Decca. They are currently touring the US.

The pointy-end of the singles chart has been dominated recently by Pharrell Williams' Happy, which has spent 11 weeks at number one – the longest of any track this decade. If it can rack up a 12th week on Saturday it will draw level with Eminem's Lose Yourself for the longest time for a track at number one this century.

It'll face competition from tracks around it, including local boy band 5 Seconds Of Summer whose She Looks So Perfect is on the rise from six this week.

Other movers in the singles rankings this week are The Chainsmokers' #Selfie, Canberra's Peking Duk featuring Sydney vocalist Nicole Millar's High, Calvin Harris' Summer, Sia's Chandelier, DVBBS featuring Borgeous and Timie Tempah's Tsunami (Jump).

Behind Sheppard, debuts will come from Illy featuring Scarlett Stevens' Tightrope and Rixton's Me & My Broken Heart.

In the ARIA Albums Chart the top debut will come from My Chemical Romance's May Death Never Stop You compilation, which is tracking around the ten mark. Enrique Iglesias' Sex & Love, The Pretty Reckless's Going To Hell and Aloe Blacc's Lift Your Spirit are also scanning solidly while further down there are top 50 ambitions for Avicii's True: Avicii By Avicii, The Wiggles' Hot Potatoes! The Best Of The Wiggles and La Dispute's Rooms Of The House.

The soundtrack to Frozen is the big mover, with Eminem's The Marshall Mathers LP2, Asgeir's In The Silence, the John Butler Trio's Flesh & Blood and Daft Punk's Random Access Memories all enjoying strong weeks so far as well.
