The band confirmed the shock news on their social media accounts this afternoon

Tasmanian heavyweights Save The Clock Tower have cancelled their scheduled performances this week in the wake of the news that their bassist, Alexander McNulty, has passed away.

Taking to their social media accounts this afternoon, the band withheld the specifics of McNulty's death, but conveyed their immeasurable sorrow with a simple post, accompanied by a live shot of McNulty doing his thing for the band:

"Today, we carry the heaviest of hearts. We miss you and love you brother, more than any words can ever, ever explain. Rest in peace Alexander."

Previously, Save The Clock Tower had advised that they would be cancelling their shows for the week "due to unforeseen circumstances".

No cause of death has been made public, but the impact of McNulty's passing is being felt by the bassist's peers and contemporaries already. Renowned frontman Michael Crafter expressed his condolences, while fellow Tasmanians Zeolite said they were "absolutely devastated" by the news. Queensland outfits Dollarosa and Awaken I Am are also mourning the loss, with Dollarosa commenting on McNulty's seemingly boundless "passion and joy", while Awaken I Am paid tribute to their "legend" of a friend.

The outpouring of support doesn't stop there, however; Danny Kenneally, of As Paradise Falls, and Bayharbour's Nathaniel Patterson have also offered their condolences to McNulty's family and friends, with both musicians making reference to performing with the bassist as "an honour".

Today, we carry the heaviest of hearts. We miss you and love you brother, more than any words can ever, ever explain. Rest in peace Alexander.
