The Australian guitar-pop/indie rock duo Royel Otis announced earlier today that their remaining shows in the US will be cancelled due to “devastating family matters”. The rest of their UK and Europe shows for the year will go ahead as usual.
One-half of the band, Roy, wrote on Instagram that his heart feels stuffed with “a huge amount of stones” before detailing that “devastating family matters” have caused him to remain in Sydney, and therefore unable to commit to the band’s upcoming US shows in December.

The news comes as the band settles back into Sydney for the upcoming ARIA Awards on Wednesday the 20th of November, where they have garnered eight nominations: Album Of The Year, Best Group, Best Independent Release, Best Rock Album, Best Australian Live Act and Song of the Year. The producer for their debut album Pratts & Pain Chris Collins is up for Best Engineered Release and Best Produced Release.
The duo skyrocketed to global acclaim when they covered Sophie Ellis-Bextor’s 2001 pop hit Murder On The Dancefloor for triple J Like A Version. The cover boosted the band to virality, amassing over 6 million views on YouTube and over 50 million streams on Spotify, and now, an ARIA nomination for Song Of The Year.
Royel Otis’ debut album Pratts & Pain released earlier this year received a 4-star rating from NME for its “effervescent indie anthems packed with detail”. Writer Andy Brown said: “This is an album destined for festival season greatness – for cool-breeze drives, warm summer parties, and late-night singalongs.”
Fans were expecting to hear some of their favourites from Pratts & Pain at six shows across Detroit, Tempe, Denver, Inglewood, Tulsa and Milwaukee in December. Roy reassured that he “will make it up” to the band’s American fans at a later time.
All sold out, scheduled shows for Royel Otis’ Glory To Glory Tour across the UK and Europe are said to be going ahead, and no further updates or changes have been made to the band’s appearances at the upcoming Lost Paradise, Beyond The Valley and Wildlands over the New Years holiday. We’re wishing both Roy and Otis of Royel Otis some well-deserved family time while they’re back on Australian soil.
