The humble Detroit songwriter is a bona fide superstar.
In what is an astonishing achievement, Detroit cult singer-songwriterRodriguezhas announced a third and final show to take place at Sydney's enormous Enmore Theatre - a fairly solid achievement for a guy whose last record was released 42 years ago.
His story is an incredible one and has beentaken to the wider world thanks to filmmaker Malik Bendjelloul, whose Searching For Sugar Man has opened the music and the story of Rodriguez up to a whole new audience.
His two incredble records didn't sell very well in the US, so he was forced to stop performing and focus on all sort of manual labour jobs to keep him afloat. Unbeknownst to him, South African audiences were besotted by these records and he had become a star in that country, all the while living a humble life in Detroit.
For many years he was rumoured to be dead, but was eventually discovered by some mad fans and his career was brought back to life. Now, deservedly - though very much thanks to the film - Rodriguez is finally popular in his home country.

The movie has been nominated for an Academy Award for Best Documentary and is hotly tipped to take it out. Earlier this week, it won the BAFTA in that same category.
We have always loved him in Australia, but this tour is something else altogether as he just keeps selling thousands tickets for shows in each city he's visiting.
This third and final Sydney show will see Rodriguez come to Australia a little earlier than originally anticipated, the newly announced gig kicking off his tour. Joining him as backing band will be the killer Aussie surf band The Break - featuring Midnight Oil, Violent Femmes and Hunters & Collectors members.
The new date is Tuesday 19 March, tickets are on sale tomorrow through Ticketek.
