Music streaming service Rdio have today unveiled the service that they hope will convert chunks of the user base of internet streaming radio services, such as Pandora, to themselves.
The on-demand service has revamped its 'Stations' function to offer a hands-off playlist that requires no prompts from the user whilst staying within a specific sphere. Essentially it is looking to mirror Pandora's model, where their Music Genome generates an ongoing playlist based on a starting point chosen by the listener and their subsequent listening habits.
Today's Rdio launch has seen the development of You FM, which utilises The Echo Nest's Tast Profiling technology to incorporate listening history, track voting and social media interactions to customise the playlist. A representative from Rdio told theMusic.com.au today that the felt the roll out would present Rdio as a one-stop streaming destination.
Pandora have previously told theMusic.com.au that they don't believe they are fighting for the same market share as on-demand streaming services, where users pick each track they want to listen to, such as Spotify, Rdio, Deezer and Mog, and have entered the Australian market with high-profile partnerships. They launched on the back of a deal with car manufacturer Holden, which places the service in new cars, and have since struck a deal to appear across Sony devices.
