QMusic’s Denise Foley To Remain In BIGSOUND Role After Stepping Down

11 December 2014 | 12:01 pm | Scott Fitzsimons

New Executive Officer announced

Former QMusic Executive Officer Denise Foley has confirmed she’ll remain within the organisation under the newly-created position of BIGSOUND Producer.

Foley stepped down from the Executive Officer role at this year’s BIGSOUND, with Joel Edmondson to take over when she officially finishes up in the role tomorrow. One of Foley’s biggest achievements during her nine years at the helm of Queensland’s peak contemporary music body was the development of BIGSOUND, which, held in Brisbane’s Fortitude Valley annually, has become Australia’s biggest music conference and showcase. This year over 1,200 delegates descended on the city and over 140 live acts performed.

Foley will support Edmondson and BIGSOUND Programmer Nick O’Byrne in her new role.

“QMusic’s goal is to grow BIGSOUND meaningfully each year,” said QMusic President Michael Crutcher. “To do that, we have to properly resource it and the new role of producer is critical to that aim. This enables the board to retain Denise within QMusic and to ensure that Joel and Nick have the support needed to continue to grow BIGSOUND.”

Foley said, “I am very excited by this appointment and for the chance to continue my involvement with the music industry. I have thoroughly enjoyed my role as Executive Officer but it is time for a new challenge. I look forward to supporting Joel in his new role and to continuing to work with Nick to deliver another BIGSOUND.”

Edmonson returns to Brisbane to take up the Executive Officer role after five years of working with Victorian local government, most recently with the City Of Whittlesea and Manager People & Culture. He was also the founding Director of Red Hill music venue Hangar and the LoFly Records artist-run label.
