Primus drummer Tim "Herb" Alexander's open-heart surgery has been deemed a success.

In a post this morning (AEST) on Facebook, the influential band revealed that their long-time on-off-on-again percussionist's surgery was pretty much a textbook procedure, with "no complications" and a "glorious and speedy" recovery expected from Herb.

 

Alexander's family and the band yesterday made a public plea for fans to "carry the beat" for the drummer while he was under the knife - and they rose to the request with aplomb, as the below random selection of tweets from the #carrythebeat hashtag demonstrates:
