It’s been a long time coming, but after 14 years, Australia’s longest-performing all-female First Nations band, Stiff Gins, have announced their first new album since 2011.

Having first formed back in 1997, Stiff Gins have consistently been one of the country's most celebrated and revered First Nations musical outfits.

Comprising of Wiradjuri/Yorta Yorta woman Kaleena Briggs and Yuwaalaraay woman Nardi Simpson, the pair’s harmonious and culturally resonant music has found eager ears over their storied career, though recent years have been a little bit lacking on the new musical front.

Last sharing a new commercial record by way of 2011’s Wind & Water (there was also the Spirit Of Things record which saw them utilise significant Aboriginal objects normally held behind glass in their museums collections), the pair have now announced that their long-awaited new record will arrive shortly, with Crossroads set for release on June 27th.

Produced by Syd Green (Kasey Chambers, 19Twenty), and harnessing the pair's signature blend of folk, roots, and First Nations language while breaking new ground in the world of lyrical storytelling, it’s a stellar piece of work and a welcome return for Briggs and Simpson.

Alongside the news of the forthcoming record, Stiff Gins have also unveiled an animated video for their new track, Bear And Bee.

Featuring animation from Four-Legged Fish Studios (with thanks extended to Tess Chung, Fletcher Johnson, Amy Redden, Kirra Shay, and Enda Murray for itscreative facilitation), the clip contextualises the story told within the music, with its soft art style and adorable figures adding a breezy sense of endearment to the already-impressive new single.

Alongside the new record, the duo will also be hitting the road next month for a national tour in support of the record, with east coast dates set to take place across July, August, and September. Tickets to those shows are on sale now via the Stiff Gins website.

Stiff Gins’ Crossroads is out on June 27th, with pre-orders available now.
