It’s the news that Australian music fans have waited years for, but after teasers and last week’s confirmation, Brisbane rock icons Powderfinger have officially detailed their 2027 reunion tour dates.

The tour kicks off just shy of the 17th anniversary of the band’s final public show in 2010, and fittingly launches at Brisbane Showgrounds on September 3rd, where the group will play four hometown dates over two weekends.

From there, they'll play two dates at Cairns' Cazalys Stadium, two dates in Perth's Wellington Square, four gigs at The Domain in Sydney, two shows at Adelaide's Ellis Park, and will wrap things up with four headline shows at Melbourne Park, with the final date wrapping up on October 30th.

News of these dates comes after a mysterious teaser campaign was launched last week, seemingly hinting at the return of the Brisbane icons. Days later, the band officially commented on the teasers, before revealing they are indeed reuniting for a series of shows.

“We’re going to build something pretty special just for you guys,” said guitarist Darren Middleton. “We’ll see you from the stage.”

“We are absolutely ecstatic to be coming together to play again,” Powderfinger said upon announcement of these dates. “Over the years there have been tons of suggestions for us to go back on the road but, until now, it never felt quite right or lined up for all of us.”

“We have always been so grateful for the continued support from our long-term fans and over the years we've picked up a lot of new ones who have never seen us play. So, it feels right to bring all of these people (including our kids who were too young to see us play) together for a special run of shows around the country next year.”

These live shows will see the group hitting the road in an “epic stadium-sized big top”, describing the whole affair as “part festival, part spectacle”.

“People often tell us that our music is connected to their most treasured and joyous memories,” they added.

“We hope to spread a little more of that joy when we make our way around the country with some of Australia’s best established and upcoming talent, and to make some new memories for us all.”

Powderfinger first formed in Brisbane in the late ‘80s, and rose to prominence with their second album, 1996’s Double Allergic.

One of Australia’s most consistent chart-toppers, every one of their albums from 1998 until 2009 topped the Australian charts, earning them two spots atop triple j’s annual Hottest 100 countdown, three APRA Awards (including two for Song Of The Year), and 18 ARIA Awards – the third-highest amount of wins for an act to date.

In 2010, the band announced their split, formally parting ways after their Sunsets Farewell Tour. In 2020, they briefly reformed for a livestreamed gig dubbed One Night Lonely, with a compilation album dubbed Unreleased (1998–2010) arriving a few months later.

Tickets for Powderfinger's upcoming dates go on sale from Monday, October 19th, with specific on-sale times staggered across the day.

Artist and Telstra presales will be available from Wednesday, October 14th, and Live Nation presales will be available from Friday, October 16th, with specific onsale times staggered throughout the days.

Full onsale times, presale registrations, and details are available via Powderfinger’s official website.
