More Powderfinger Powderfinger Profile

After a week of speculation, Powderfinger have confirmed that the rumours are true: they’ve reunited after 16 years, and in another piece of news that will delight fans even more, they’re hitting the road next year.

In a video posted on social media today (9 October), members of Powderfinger gathered before a camera to share the news. Frontman Bernard Fanning revealed that the band would “do some shows all around Australia from September next year.”

He added, “We always said that, if we were going to get back together to do some shows, that you guys would be the first to know.”

Guitarist Darren Middleton said, “We’re going to build something pretty special just for you guys. We’ll see you from the stage.”

Fans can sign up for updates on the band’s website. According to their Instagram, more news will drop on Monday, 12 October, at 6 am AEDT.

This week, mysterious billboards have appeared across the country. They all feature ciphers and point to milestones from across Powderfinger’s career.

Yesterday, Powderfinger broke their silence after speculation has circled them all week.

They took to social media and confirmed they’ve been behind @thereturnoftheelectrichorsemen, the mysterious Instagram account that’s been sharing cryptic teasers online. Reunion rumours have followed.

The handle references the song (The Return of) The Electric Horseman, the last track on Powderfinger’s 1996 album Double Allergic

The account features five horse emojis in its bio, pointing to the band’s five members: vocalist Bernard Fanning; guitarists Darren Middleton and Ian Haug; bassist John Collins; and drummer Jon Coghill.

The beloved Aussie rockers said farewell to fans with their final Sunsets tour in November 2010, culminating in an epic hometown sendoff at Brisbane’s Riverstage. Nearly ten years later, all five members joined forces remotely in May 2020 for the One Night Lonely livestream.

The livestream raised more than $500,000 for Support Act and Beyond Blue. At the time, Powderfinger stressed that it was a one-off performance.
