Popular Melbourne Venue To Close For 'Next Few Months' Following Fire

Management have issued a statement.

Management of Melbourne's popular Bimbo Deluxe have confirmed the venue will close "for the next few months" following a fire on its second floor early yesterday morning

It has been confirmed the blaze was caused by faulty office equipment and is not being treated as suspicious. No staff or patrons were on site when the fire began.

The extent of the damage to the Brunswick Street space is still being assessed.

"On the bright side, Bimbos will BRB with a less charred fit in the next few months," management said in a statement.

"We’ll be coming back with a bang, so keep your eyes on the society pages for our big reveal."

While now famous as a rooftop bar and pub, in its previous incarnation Bimbo Deluxe (then as The Punters Club) was considered one of the premier venues for live acts throughout the '80s and '90s.

Names who have performed at the Brunswick Street space include Powderfinger, Silverchair, The Avalanches, Cat Power, Dirty Three, Jimmy Eat World and Mike Patton.
