Pop Stars To Hold Off Rock Legends On ARIA Chart

Pop has will have complete control over the ARIA Album Chart this week, with One Direction's Take Me Home, ARIA Awards bound-Taylor Swift's Red and Pink's The Truth About Love to argue the top three spots amongst themselves. The biggest challengers come from the new Led Zeppelin Celebration Day live CD and Rod Stewart's Merry Christmas, Baby, which is still climbing in its third week of charting, according to midweek figures.

Other debuts from Susan Boyle (Standing Ovation: The Greatest Songs From The Stage), Christina Aguilera (Lotus) and Pitbull (Global Warming) will be the biggest debuts and a sign that we're well and truly into the Christmas retail period.

The unknown quantity amongst all this is Aussie rock legends AC/DC – whose back catalogue was finally made available on iTunes this week. Expect to see them re-enter strongly, particularly in the catalogue chart.

In the Singles Chart Swedish House Mafia will have to fight to retain their top spot, with Macklemore & Ryan Lewis' Thrift Shop proving a strong competitor in its fourth week (the track bulleted from 19 to four last week). Sam & The Womp's Bom Bom reached its highest point in its 11 weeks last week at six and we can expect to climb even higher this week.

The other track shooting up the page is Icelandic indie-folk favourites Of Monsters & Men, whose Little Talks looks ready to improve of its position of 11. After ten weeks, the track has peaked at ten so far.

Recent X-Factor winner Samantha Jade is also likely to feature as the highest local entry.
