Loosen up your minds for this one, friends

More Plini More Plini

Aficionados of all things musically head-fucky will be utterly spoiled this September when local 'bedroom prog wizard' Plini hits the road with Canadian prog-metal hero Intervals for a run of shows together sure to melt your goddamn minds.

With Plini swiftly brushing up his live chops through international tours with not only Intervals but — at present — venerated progressive act Animals As Leaders, he returns to Australian shores for his biggest tour to date, taking in his first-ever headline performance in Perth. There's an extra degree of celebration to the forthcoming run, as it will come freshly in the wake of Plini's eagerly awaited debut LP, Handmade Cities, which is due for release on 26 August.

Plini will be flanked in the flesh by a prodigious group of players, including drummer Troy Wright as well as Jake Howsam Lowe and Simon Grove of The Helix Nebula. Intervals — ordinarily the solo recording brainchild of guitarist/composer Aaron Marshall — will also have a bolstered live line-up, with Plini stepping in to help out alongside Canadian fly-ins Nathan Bulla (Auras) and Simon Grove.

Plini and Intervals will kick off their tour of Australia at The Brightside, in Brisbane, on Thursday 1 September, heading to Sydney's Oxford Art Factory on 2 September, Melbourne's Max Watts on 3 September and Adelaide's Fat Controller on 9 September, before wrapping up on the west coast at Perth's Amplifier Bar on Saturday 10 September.

Joining the fray for all east-coast dates will be Sydney's Polaris, who are still riding high on the acclaim slung their way for their recent second EP The Guilt & The Grief. Additional supports include Dyssidia in Adelaide and Absent Hearts in Perth.

Going the extra mile, there's even a one-hour-long masterclass and Q&A session being held with Plini and Intervals that will be "tailored to the interests of the group" and encompass "anything from composition and guitar techniques to touring & building a career as an independent musician". So that's worth checking out.
