'Sandy' will be available digitally this Friday
Worldly Melburnian singer-songwriter Alex Gow, better known as the face and voice of Oh Mercy, has recently returned home after a stint abroad in the United States, where he spent a transient couple of years crafting his forthcoming fourth full-length album. Now, he's starting to lift the veil on the fruits of his labours, with the revelation of Sandy, the first single to be taken from the impending album.
Although we won't see the full-length until later in the year, Sandy is due for digital release this Friday, 13 March, and, according to Gow, "is a stuck-in-the-middle kind of song".
"I wrote it in Nashville," he explained in a statement. "I was walking to a Mexican restaurant. It's about self-loathing, and self-loathing by way of resenting someone who loves you. Just for loving you (what a world)! It's a little about needing it, but wishing you didn't need it. In the end, you're goddamn glad you got it."
Or, if you'd prefer, you can just listen to it below to suss out what it's all about for yourself.

Although the follow-up to 2012's Deep Heat is still a little while off, Gow has announced the first live Oh Mercy dates for the year, with a show each in Sydney (Newtown Social Club, Wednesday, 22 April) and Melbourne (Gasometer, Saturday, 25 April).
Sandy will be available both digitally and as a limited-edition white vinyl 7", the latter of which features a second unreleased album track, Iron Cross. It's available exclusively here, and when you purchase a ticket to one of the newly announced shows in Melbourne and Sydney.
