Velvet Lounge fights to stay open as a live music venue

The WA live music scene has had some much-needed wins as of late, with the opening of Jack Rabbit Slim’s and The Boston on the horizon, but the future of long-standing live music venue The Flying Scotsman is in jeopardy following noise complaints from nearby residents.

The venue’s live room, Velvet Lounge, had a new PA and lighting system installed earlier this year, and has been hosting an increasing amount of events as the year goes on, but, as venue booker Laith Tierney has stated, the noise complaints post a serious threat.

“It's a familiar tale in Western Australia and in the wake of recent venue closures, we must take the threat of losing another live music destination very seriously,” Tierney posted on Facebook.

“Velvet Lounge would very much like to continue showcasing the best of live original music and Perth's top DJs, however, in order for this to continue we need to comply with council noise regulations.“
