Nick Cave has joined forces with PETA for their Every Animal Is Someone campaign, which celebrates every animal’s individuality.

As part of the collaboration, the renowned Australian musician has unveiled new, limited merchandise featuring his original illustration of a dog and a rat alongside PETA’s Every Animal Is Someone slogan.

Cave’s illustration features on exclusive T-shirts, tote bags, and tapestries, which you can order now via the PETA store.

Some Nick Cave fans might be looking at the merchandise below and wondering how this collaboration came to be. The truth is, for decades, Cave has explored love, grief, and joy – connecting emotions for humans, but also animals.

With his illustration, he highlights that humans are able to look beyond arbitrary differences, so why not recognise the similarities in all living creatures?

As PETA notes, “cows form lifelong friendships and mourn the loss of loved ones, rats show empathy toward others, and chickens dream while they sleep and can even worry about the future.” And that’s before we talk about dogs.

Additionally, Nick Cave has teamed up with PETA before. He previously shared his song, Breathless, with the animal rights non-profit organisation. PETA then used the song in a campaign featuring Iggy Pop. Other celebrities who have supported the organisation include Paul McCartney, Morrissey, Joan Jett, and Chrissie Hynde.

Discussing the collaboration, Cave said, “Every animal deserves to be treated with kindness, compassion and respect. Every animal is someone.”

PETA Executive Agent Mimi Bekhechi added, “Nick Cave’s work explores love, grief, and joy – feelings humans share with all other animals. This collaboration embodies the spirit of PETA’s motto that Every Animal Is Someone and gives fans a meaningful way to let love in for all beings.”

Earlier this year, Nick Cave said that he and his Bad Seeds bandmates had been “messing around” in the studio with “the vague idea of perhaps making a new record.”

If the band are indeed working on a new record, it would follow their eighteenth album, Wild God, released in August 2024. That was the long-awaited follow-up to 2019’s Ghosteen and marked the first record since 2016’s Skeleton Tree to feature all Bad Seeds, as well as Radiohead’s Colin Greenwood.

In January, Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds brought their Wild God tour to Australia—their first shows at home since 2017.
