Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds have lent their song, Final Rescue Attempt, to a new campaign kick-started by the Australian Marine Conservation Society.

The haunting track is pulled from the group’s latest album, last year’s Wild God. With lyrics that question faith and layers of devotion and anguish, Final Rescue Attempt is a powerful offering that searches for meaning in the face of adversity, making it the perfect song to soundtrack the Fragile Ocean campaign.

Fragile Ocean is a short film featuring Final Rescue Attempt, with a voice-over from Melanie Zanetti, who you may know as the voice of Chilli, Bluey’s Mum.

The campaign encourages Aussies to look away from busy lives for a moment and reconnect with the ocean. The video – created by multi-award-winning production company, Collider – showcases water-formed marine animals moving through Australia’s cities, reminding viewers that the ocean touches every element of our lives, from climate to food to identity.

The mission behind the campaign? Raising awareness, demanding more decisive climate action, and marine protection.

Australian Marine Conservation Society Director of Communications, Imogen Scott, said of Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds lending their song: “We are deeply grateful to Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds for lending us their extraordinary song, Final Rescue Attempt. It’s the perfect soundtrack for a nation grappling with the loss of nature — and asking, what now? That’s where AMCS comes in.

“We know the solutions. And when enough people speak up, change happens. This isn’t just about loving the beach or whale watching from our shores — ocean health is inseparable from our own. The good news is, if we act now, our reefs, ocean and marine life can recover. But they need us to give them that chance.”

Scott added, “Our ocean has never needed us more. And when people care, governments follow. If you care about the ocean and want to be part of the solution, AMCS is where you belong. We are the ocean’s people.”

Last month, Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds announced a massive Australian tour—their first tour Down Under since 2017. The shows will take place mostly at outdoor venues in January and February 2026.

Discussing the band’s monumental return to Australia and New Zealand, Cave said: “I can’t wait to get to Australia and New Zealand with The Bad Seeds and to bring you our epic Wild God show. It’s been a long time coming, and I’ve missed both Australia and New Zealand very much. It will be a wild and mighty joy.”

You can find tickets to the tour here.
