The festival that doesn't release its line-up announces last party
Cult New Zealand festival Camp A Low Hum has announced that their 2014 event will be their last, with their unique event booking 25 Australian acts for the occasion.
Renowned for not announcing its line-up until punters get to the event, it has built solidly in size and reputation in the past seven years. While bands are welcome to indicate to their own fans that they're playing the event, it's not until the day of the event that the festival releases a line-up or timetable for its international artists.
In a post on the festival's website founder and Festival Director Ian 'Blink' Jorgensen, who was recently in Australia for the Face The Music conference, wrote, “I wasn't going to make it public that I was finishing after this one, but I realised that it would be a bummer for me to announce on the last night of the event that it was the last one as it would create more of a buzzkill and depressed vibe than the celebratory party that I am hoping it will be!”
He indicated that there will be in the region of 50 New Zealand artist, 25 Australian acts and ten internationals. On top of that, there are expected to be a similar amount of 'unofficial' acts that perform through the three days.

"This is going to be three of the most amazing days of music and that is not even counting the 'renegade' bill which is already shaping up to be seriously awesome with some amazing acts who have played previous camps and awesome acts from overseas and more," the statement reads. "I would expect another 50 or so bands to play 'renegade' sets over the weekend."
Artists like Thee Oh Sees, Kirin J Callinan, Dan Deacon, Ny Disco, Oscar + Martin and Die!Die!Die! have appeared on line-ups over the years.
The festival has enjoyed an increasingly Australian presence and the last event, for which there are still tickets available to, is likely to attract a solid contingent of cross-Tasman tourists.
Jorgensen finished, "This isn't the end of me and events/parties, just the end of Camp. See you in Feb. One more time."
The BYO, all age event – which is free of sponsorship or media accreditation – opens its gates from 4pm Thursday 6 February and runs until Sunday 9.
It takes place 30 minutes out of Wellington in Homedale, Wainuomata. New areas are the site are expected to be opened for the final 2014 event.
