The live action remake of Mulan will head to streaming after multiple cinema release dates were axed due to the COVID pandemic.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the film will now premiere on Disney+ at a premium price of $29.99 from 4 September. Mulan was originally scheduled to hit cinemas globally in March, before being pushed back to July and again to August.
“We’re very pleased to be able to bring Mulan to our consumer base that has been waiting for it for a long, long time. Mulan is a one-off," Walt Disney CEO Bob Chapek said.
"That said, we find it very interesting to be able to take a new offering to consumers at that $29.99 price and learn from it and see what happens not only in terms of the uptick of the number of subscribers we got on the platform, but also the number of transactions we get on that PVOD offering.”
The news comes after it was confirmed this week that Christopher Nolan's Tenet will be released in Australia on 27 August after it too was delayed.
Roadshow Films have also confirmed that the Seth Rogen-led An American Pickle will be released in Australian cinemas on 24 September, following its US premiere on HBO Max tomorrow.
Meanwhile, the long-awaited Bill & Ted Face The Music has also had its local release date pushed back this week from 27 August to 10 September after the US release was rescheduled to 1 September.
