American musician MJ Lenderman is set to make a return visit to Australia this March, announcing a headline tour of the country this morning.
The news follows on from last week’s announcement that Lenderman is the first act announced as part of the final edition of Bambra’s Meadow festival, which sees him performing on March 22nd.
While in the country, Lenderman and his band The Wind will also perform three headline dates, including a show at Melbourne's Northcote Theatre on March 21st; the Sydney Opera House on March 25th, and The Princess in Brisbane on March 27th.
The shows take place just over a year from Lenderman’s Australian debut, which saw him performing as part of Golden Plains, MONA FOMA, and the Perth Festival in addition to a number of standalone shows, performing double duty as both a solo artist and a member of Wednesday.
Since those dates, however, Lenderman has exploded in popularity thanks to his fourth album, Manning Fireworks. Released in September, the record has managed to receive widespread critical acclaim and highly positive reviews, with many citing it as an album of the year.
Alongside the announcement of his Australian tour, Lenderman has also shared the official video for the track, You Don’t Know The Shape I’m In, which has also received praise as a standout track from the record.
The clip was directed by Chuck Shreve and Angel James who note it’s about “a defective model struggles to make sense of the world he's born into”.
“Ultimately, this is our attempt at a 1:1 remake of Toy Story 2,” they quipped.
Tickets to MJ Lenderman’s Australian tour go on sale from 9am on Friday, November 22nd.
