Missy Higgins Scores Third #1 Debut In A Row

The Ol' Razzle Dazzle album by Missy Higgins has become the local singer/songwriter's third album to enter the ARIA Album Chart at number one.

Higgins' debut album The Sound Of White entered the Australian charts at number one in September 2004 and follow-up set On A Clear Day debuted in the top spot in April 2007.

Despite the long break between albums for Higgins, Razzle Dazzle was selling well enough by mid-week to indicate that it would topple last week's number one, John Mayer's Born And Raised (which dropped to seven in its second week).

Higgins managed to overcome the triple threat of The Voice (Keith Urban held at two), One Direction (at three) and Ed Sheeran (this season's Adele is back up to four).

It was a healthy week for new local album sales. Sydney's metalcore act Buried In Verona debuted their third album, Notorious, at 20, while Melbourne soul funk outfit The Bamboos brought their Medicine Man set in at 28 while expat Sam Sparro shook off his one-hit wonder tag by debuting album number two, Return To Paradise, at  41.

With heaps of interest maintained in The Temper Trap, as they hit the US promo trail, the band remain top five for a third week with their self-titled album while 360's headline grabbing tour saw his Falling And Flying shoot back up to 12 in its 36th week of charting. However, Julia Stone's solo album slipped to 26 in its second week, missing the top ten having peaked at 11.

And, quietly achieving the biggest success of a career that stretches back to the late '60s, Sri Lankan Australian musician Alston continues to climb the chart with his Don't Funk With Me album - this week up from 22 to 16 in its seventh week (the album features a remix of his '70s club hit The Disco Lady).

International albums to debut this week include: Thirty Miles West - Alan Jackson (six); Americana - Neil Young & Crazy Horse (34); Here - Edward Shape & The Magnetic Zeroes (37) and Greatest Hits - Good Charlotte (45).

Sharpe & co fared even better in the Digital Album Chart, entering at 13. The Bamboos came in there at 15 with Buried In Verona at 18 and Sam Sparro at 19. The third volume of the Offspring soundtrack came in at 27, giving local acts like Canyons, Nantes and Elizabeth Rose their first top 50 entries (it also puts Aus '90s dance hit Love You Right by Euphoria back in the charts).
